William David Tatum defeated 41 runners at the annual Cross Country 2 I / 2 mile race that was held in Boston, Ma. in October, 1950! Though a sophomore, William defeated the juniors & seniors who participated from all Greater Boston High Schools!

While abroad in 1990, William sent the original photograph from the Boston Globe of October 24, 1950 to Boston English High School, Est. 1821 the oldest public high school in America.

The newspaper featured an article as to how William won the race and his photograph was depicted holding the ”Goose” the first prize! He was dubbed GOOSE Tatum by his friends.
